Mandatory Initial Inspection
According to the Greek Law and specifically the mandatory directive FA/9.2/ΟΙΚ 28425/Official Journal 2604/Β/22-12-08, the owner or administrator of the building or its legal representative has to see for the issue of a Periodical Inspection Certificate for the elevator. The certificate is issued by an independent notified inspection body (Article 8). Upon receipt of the certificate, the owner or administrator has to submit to the local Municipality an application for the entry of the elevator in the Elevators Register (Article 3, Paragraph 2 & Article 10, Paragraph 3).
For periodical inspections in old elevators for which no initial inspection has taken place, apply the testing guidelines (acc. to Appendix III of Standard EN 8180 and the European Recommendation 95/216/EC) which the certification bodies abide by.
Mandatory Periodical Re-Inspection
According to the same directive, the owner or administrator or the legal representative of the building, is obliged to see for the periodical re-inspection of the elevator, after the initial inspection. Depending on the category of the elevator (Article 10) re-inspections are scheduled accordingly:
| Residential buildings | Up to 6 stops | every 6 years |
| Residential buildings | 7 or more stops | every 5 years |
| Commercial buildings | Up to 6 stops | every 4 years |
| Commercial buildings | 7 or more stops | every 3 years |
| Other public buildings or with increased use | independently of number of stops | anually |
The abovementioned time intervals between two consecutive inspections of the same elevator are defined from the issue date of the previous certificate (initial or periodical) by a recognized inspection body.
Sanctions
We inform you that, depending on each case, according to the sanction clauses of the abovementioned common ministry directive, the offenders may be fined up to 50.000 € (Article 13), while the operation of the elevator should be paused until its conformity to the law (Article 12).
